Some days ago, the founder of Facebook, went to make a prediction:

all sites become more ‘socials’.

Develop portals of success: changes in doing business online

Until a few years ago, the the distinction was between vertical portals and horizontal portals.

The seconds, concern the classic generalist portals, such Virgilio.it, etc. ..

Others refer to those sites that follow a specific thematic area or otherwise a very specific area.

This division, which was strengthened in the era of “New Economy, has continued without much change, until recently.

In the era of Web 2.0 and with the arrival (or invasion) of social networks, even the great protagonists of the Network, see Google are gearing up to adapt to change and new habits of users.

Doing business online: adapt to new ways to use the Net

The navigators (clients, users etc..), Up to two / three years ago, except for some forums or chat within well-defined, in the vast majority, they did not interact or only in limited cases, they expressed opinions.

Today, from the lady of fifty to the student of twelve, the socials, became a mass phenomenon and that nothing and no one, can think of not considering.

And this, certainly not those who have as mission: to do business online.

Here we are to respond to that statement of Mark Zuckerberg that is claiming that it is going towards a business model geared more and more to the ‘social portal’.

The question for those who generate business online is therefore:

How to do business online, according to the social model?

The need for each portal, is also to be able to find their own space, their own identity. This, presents a number of questions to the many executives of general platform and vertical portals that are in a position of having to face not only competition to maintain and increase its visibility against a growing number of opponents but also and above all, we are living the evolution Portal Template that is increasingly becoming ‘partecipated’ and less unidirectional.

In short, users want to have their say and even the industry giants, will have to cope with this trend.

And then:

Exit the traditional model of portal, with creating platforms to participate, not only structurally but actually able to meet these needs.

But the question of closure is:

There is a proven business model that sees in the online portal ‘social oriented’, a easy application able to produce business with such initiatives?

In the coming episodes, we’ll investigate the matter further.
